The Reserve range continues to be the best of what we are able to produce in a given vintage – single vineyard or otherwise. Fruit was predominantly sourced from two mature, dry grown vineyards; Timber Creek, in the Wilyabrup subregion; and Victory Point in the Treeton subregion of Margaret River and was supplemented with a small amount of Malbec from our Stevens Road vineyard in Wallcliffe. The resulting blend from these vineyards has married beautifully, proving again that sometimes ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’.

The growing season began with a late budburst after a relatively cold winter with reasonable rainfall. The cool Spring which followed resulted in some uneven flowering and fruit set, and generally lower than average yields. We experienced a significant (and unusual) rain event mid-January which was timely due to the later season, and this was followed by some fine, mild weather to get vintage underway. There was a complete lack of Marri blossom leading up to and during harvest which meant that bird pressure was extreme! Bird-netting absolutely vital this season. There was a minor rain event coupled with high humidity mid-March which presented some challenges requiring careful fruit selection with some white varieties; however, this gave way to some beautiful weather right through till late April. Tasting Notes
Deep red with purple hues. |

This elegant wine offers a vibrant bouquet of blackcurrant, mulberries and rose petal framed by fine French oak, interwoven with hints of cocoa and bay leaf in the background. |
|
Medium-full bodied, the palate offers a core of blue and black forest fruits, cassis, and dark choc-mint characters. The wine has a wonderful depth of flavour with intricate layers of inky fruits underpinned by fine grained, gravelly tannins. Quintessential Margaret River Cabernet; energetic, complex and refined culminating in a persistent berry fruit finish. |
|
Vibrant, yet approachable in its youth, this wine will also certainly benefit from further bottle maturation and will cellar comfortably for the next 10+ years. |

Fruit was crushed/destemmed before small batch fermentation in a combination of static and open fermenters. Fermentation takes 7-8 days at 24 – 26° C, during which the cap is managed using a combination of aerative pumping over, as well as regular plunging by hand. After a very gentle pressing, all of the components were matured for 14 months in French oak barriques before the blend was assembled from a selection of ‘best barrels’ from each batch (45% new oak) were selected for the final blend. |

Xanadu’s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is up there with the best of them.
This is such a fine release. It’s bold and powerful but it’s also a long, long way from being thick or overdone. Cabernet has such a natural authority that it doesn’t need to be pushed. Pure blackcurrant, a creaminess to the mouthfeel, redcurrant, bay leaf and gravel notes, a healthy turn of tannin, and wonderful length. It feels composed; it feels superior. Its elegance is matched only by its persistence.

A blend of 92% cabernet, 4% petit verdot and 4% malbec, which was fermented in small open fermenters and then matured in a mix of 45% new and the remainder older French oak for 14 months. Brighter perfumed blackcurrant and plummy mulberry aromas with a hint of cedar. Seamlessly integrated palate with chalky fine tannins. Has a leafy red fruit aromatic that snuggles into the deeper dark fruit concentration.

Youthful, bright and purply-red colour in the glass. Classic cabernet aromas of cassis, graphite, cedar, blackberry and a cool menthol and tobacco lift. The flavours are driven by lashings of dark-berry fruits, brambly, earthy underbrush, cedar and sappy spices. Firm, textured tannins and lively acidity round the wine out very nicely. A smart wine now but built for the long-haul. 13 MAR 2022

Xanadu winemaker, Glenn Goodall, and his team have a clear idea of what they want from a reserve wine whether it be a chardonnay or a cabernet.
There’s no denying he sees age-worthiness as part of its drawcard, and that means some firm tannins come into play here. They are there for a very good reason.
There are also multi-layers of flavours, textures. It’s quite exciting, especially if you have time on your hands and a place to stash this little beauty. Blackcurrant, leafy/herbal/rosemary with wild berries and earth-leather savoury notes on the bouquet. That hint of savouriness is alluring, tempting, whets the tastebuds as it reappears on the palate in league with dried herbs, anise, chocolate and salty liquorice. Just a lick of vanillin-toasty oak sets off the whole cabernet experience. A ripper cabernet but give it the time it deserves.

Black and blue fruit, baking spice, cocoa, some mint, rose and bay leaf perfume. It’s medium-bodied, compact feel with firm stony tannin, some redcurrants, a fresh almost sappy quality to acidity, and grainy gravelly tannin to close. Certainly has a fair bit of energy, and a spicy nervy feel to it, but also comes with good depth of flavour, and a finish of solid length.

Deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant, cedar with roasted chestnut, mocha, herb garden notes. Very well concentrated and beautifully structured with pure blackcurrant pastille, inky flavours, fine graphite, al dente tannins and integrated roasted chestnut, mocha oak. Chalky, hint oaky from with seductive dark berry fruits at the finish. Brilliantly composed and refined with all the elements in symmetry.

The 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is awesome, with layer upon layer of flavor—all of them settling on each other like fine sheets of tissue. It gives up notes of blood, ferrous, iodine, pomegranate, raspberry, tobacco, aniseed, saltbush, bay leaf, matcha (green tea), bramble and undergrowth. Beetroot, fennel and more more more. What a wine. As usual, the style of this is svelte and restrained, and the tannins are the final icing on the cake: fine, shapely and structuring, spooling out through the long finish. It's a little bit chewy but slinky and supple. Delicious. Phwoar.
